Kunio’s experience includes P&L accountability, design engineering, manufacturing management, and sales and marketing. Bilingual in Japanese and English, Kunio has led divisions in both Japan and the US. His career includes over 14 years of managing international marketing and operating divisions.

Kunio began his career at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. After completing his Masters' Degree, he joined Hewlett-Packard as an R&D engineer and later managed teams which introduced three successful new products to market. He then initiated concurrent engineering to streamline and shorten the R&D process cycle time for HP’s division in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Kunio moved to Santa Clara, California as Product Marketing Manager where he increased the company's semiconductor test equipment market position by 50% and improved in-bound and out-bound marketing processes.

Kunio’s international assignments began as General Manager of HP's Semiconductor Test Equipment Division in Tokyo, Japan. His team improved supply chain process and earned “Best Supplier” awards from Texas Instruments. Streamlining the division, he turned five years of losses into profit by improving both top line and bottom line growth. The division won the HP President’s Quality Award for excellence in management process as a result of these accomplishments.

Kunio retuned to the U.S. as General Manager of the HP Lightwave Division in California, where he improved performance in R&D, Marketing and Manufacturing. He also set the strategic direction to focus on networking and telecommunication markets, which led the division to double revenues in two years.  When Hewlett-Packard spun off its Test and Measurement business, Kunio joined Agilent Technologies, as Vice President and Field Operation General Manager in Japan. In this role he established the Japan customer support and contact center; sponsored project to automate back office and CRM operations; and improved customer satisfaction by integrating the customer contact center, sales reps, support engineers, and marketing functions. This also significantly reduced the cost of these sales operations. Later Kunio led the worldwide deployment of an Oracle ERP throughout the Agilent's Test and Measurement business unit. This implementation was the largest and most complex project Oracle had ever taken on with a client to that point. Kunio was responsible for the overall planning of the implementation and for creating a change management process, which replaced over 2500 legacy applications in multiple worldwide sites with the Oracle solution.

After leaving Agilent,  Kunio was VP of Design Operations for FormFactor, Inc. He was accountable for worldwide design operations, leading Quality Improvement programs that reduced cycle-time by 35% and rework by 50% in the first 12 months. He led design groups in America and Japan and started a Singapore group from scratch. Most recently, Kunio was VP at Veeco Instruments responsible for revitalize their Japan operation and worldwide field service operation. Kunio led the rebuilding of business process and placed new management in their Japan organization. During this period, Kunio acted as a Board member and representative Director of Veeco in Japan.

Kunio was one of a very select group of managers within HP to attend Stanford's Executive Program. He was awarded Masters and Bachelor's Degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hawaii.
